How This Calculator Works
This calculator applies the discharge bar provisions of the Bankruptcy Code:
- Section 727(a)(8) - 8-year bar: Chapter 7 to Chapter 7
- Section 727(a)(9) - 6-year bar: Chapter 13 to Chapter 7 (with exceptions)
- Section 1328(f)(1) - 4-year bar: Chapter 7 to Chapter 13
- Section 1328(f)(2) - 2-year bar: Chapter 13 to Chapter 13
- Section 109(g) - 180-day filing bar after certain dismissals
All periods are measured from filing date to filing date. This calculator runs entirely in your browser - no data is sent to any server.
